Violet Cove Oysters in Suffolk County applied to the John May Farm Safety Fund to reduce their sun and heat exposure during work. When they harvest oysters on the bay, they are in full sun with little to no shaded areas. With the assistance of the fund, they added shade units to two boats they use to harvest and sort oysters so this portion of their work can be done in the shade and limit heat and sun exposure. Owner, Susan Wicks, shared “I’m so thrilled with the new shade unit they are an amazing upgrade for our crew. My heart overflows with gratitude, thank you so much, this means so much to our little farm.”
