Sue Ackerman Named Practitioner of the Year by NYSARH

Sue Ackerman, Center Manager for the New York Center for Agricultural Medicine and Health (NYCAMH), was recently recognized as an awardee by the New York State Association for Rural Health (NYSARH).

In celebration of National Rural Health Day on November 20, Ackerman was presented with NYSARH’s Dr. Gary Ogden Rural Health Practitioner of the Year Award. This honor celebrates a rural clinical practitioner who embodies its namesake’s a passion for life, dedication to community and patients, and commitment to making dreams a reality.

“I am extremely honored to be the recipient of this award,” said Ackerman. “I have had the privilege of having a job that allowed me to utilize my nursing skills as well as those of a farm wife and mother. It has been extremely rewarding to do this work, and to work alongside a terrific group of coworkers and leaders who all have that same passion for the population we serve, whether it be farming, forestry, or fishing.”

Ackerman began working in rural health at Bassett Healthcare Network 40 years ago, dedicating more than half of her career at NYCAMH. Her 28 years of serving farmers, farmworkers, and rural communities included hundreds of vaccine clinics, critical health services during the COVID-19 pandemic, administrative support to keep all of NYCAMH’s programs running smoothly, and much more.

The team at NYCAMH extend their sincere gratitude to Ackerman for all of the good work she has done over the years. Congratulations!
