Prompt:
Create a one-page art design promoting safety around mechanical hazards on farms (such as moving parts, sharp objects, pinch points, crush points, wrap points, etc.). Designs can be print or digital.
Classroom Add-on:
A NYCAMH Safety Educator will visit your classroom (in-person or virtually) to provide an engaging lesson related to the Art Contest topic! Schedule a lesson for your class by emailing Sarah Welsh at sarah.welsh@bassett.org.
How to Participate:
This contest is open to 5th-12th graders in New York State. Contest opens September 22, 2025. Deadline to submit projects is November 14, 2025. Follow criteria and instructions below to submit your artwork:

Print Design Criteria
- 8.5×11 inch size paper
- Open to use of any materials including crayon, pencils, markers, paint, etc.

Digital Design Criteria
- Ideal Sizes: 1920×1080 px (16:9) or 8.5×11”
- Save designs as PDF, PNG, or JPEG file type
- Cite image sources in a separate document (URLs are sufficient)
- Use any software you would like to create designs, including PowerPoint, Publisher, Paint, Canva, Adobe applications, etc.

Winners will be announced December 2025!
First and second place monetary prizes will be awarded to two groups: grades 5 – 8 and grades 9 – 12. Each group will have first and second place awards for each design format, print and digital.
Submissions are graded based on the following categories:
Content/Safety Message:
The design is relevant to the chosen topic and shares accurate information about staying safe in an agricultural or rural environment.
Design + Creativity:
The design is creative. The design makes good use of space with few blank spots. Images or drawings are clear. Overall neatness.
Text:
Any text is displayed in easy-to-read colors, fonts/handwriting, and size. Placement of text makes sense and does not make it more difficult to read.
