Over time and use, the Hayes’ silo doors, ladder, and chute for their silo had decayed to the point where they were a major hazard. The silo doors were no longer latching properly and could fall in when attempting to climb the silo to move the unloader. Additionally, the chute had holes in it which caused issues with the unloading process, requiring extra climbs to remove blockages. With the help of the John May Farm Safety Fund, this farm replaced the silo doors and chute liner so that this regular task could be completely safely and without issue.
