Farm Health Services

Bringing the clinic to the farm
NYCAMH provides free and convenient on-farm health screenings for farmworkers. Health screening participants gain an understanding of their current health and can ask about any health concerns they have. They may also receive free health-related products or healthy snacks, educational materials, and referrals for follow up care, if needed. Services and materials are provided in participants’ preferred language.

Except for specialized clinics or situations of emergent need, these services are typically available to farms that fall in a 50 mile radius from NYCAMH, where there is a gap in Federally Qualified Health Center coverage.

During health crises like COVID-19 and Avian Influenza, NYCAMH has worked closely with the Department of Health and other entities to respond and provide health support and resources to farms across New York State.

Immunizations
Most requested vaccinations include Influenza (Flu), Tetanus, and Covid-19. Some farms request standalone flu vaccine clinics during flu season, typically scheduled September through January.

Cardiovascular Screenings
Understand risk factors for heart disease including blood pressure, body measurements, cholesterol and blood sugar levels, past medical history, family history, and other factors.

Diabetes Screenings
A1C is a measure of average blood glucose and is a diagnostic test for diabetes. 1 out of 3 people screened at NYCAMH clinics have pre-diabetes or high A1C.

Physical Exams
Physicals provide a time for participants to discuss any health concerns with a provider and get advice or referrals for additional care.

NYCAMH’s Occupational Health Nurse or Farm Services Navigator are also available for technical assistance and can help connect farmworkers to local health providers, health departments, or resources that they need.
